These are informal meetings held at members' homes to learn
orchid cultural and answer questions about orchid care. It is
intended, especially, for new members and new growers but the
long established members are welcome. This mixed experience
level gives the novice many opinions, advice that may work in their
growing area. It, also, allows new members to meet and get to
know the more experienced members of the society.
On August the 7th the Culture Study Group enjoyed an informative and up to date discourse on common orchid pests,
their identification, lifecycles and the best way to control them. The expert was Scott Creary M.S., an insect control
specialist from Phipps. About forty people came and updated their information on the subject. Scott's presentation was up
to date, lively and interesting; questions were asked and answered, and everybody left armed with more knowledge to use
in the eternal fight against the pesky invaders.
We extend our sincere thanks to Mr. Creary!!! He is working on a written guide on the subject that he has promised to
share with us, so stay tuned to the CSG page on the OSWP website. We will have it there as soon as we get it...
An orchid flea market, and a scrumptious table of goodies completed the day. Many thanks from all of us to our members
Demetria and Brien Marsh for welcoming us into their home and graciously hosting the enjoyable event, as well inviting us
to see their green and healthy orchid plants collection
