Mark your calendar: Awards Study meeting on June
10, at 7:30 p.m.
Phaleonopsis are oftentimes the first orchids that new enthusiasts
purchase when they decide to learn to grow orchids. So local stores, such
as Lowes and Home Depot, make them easily available at low cost. These
orchids are also much loved and admired by growers with considerable
experience. But what makes for a high quality flower on a Phal? What
qualities should people consider when adding a Phal to the orchid
collection? After all, it takes as much time and energy to grow an
exceptional plant as an ordinary one. AOS judge Barbara Tisherman will
shed light on those questions in light of AOS standards at the Awards
Study meeting to be held on Friday evening, June 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the
home of Terry and Armand Latour. Come join your friends at the Award
Study meeting where we'll review the major criteria for orchid flowers
while concentrating on Phals in particular.
Participants are encouraged to bring blooming Phals for
discussion. If you have something special that you want to have
analyzed, please feel welcome to bring it as well.
As always, please phone or email Terry several days ahead
of time to let her know that you will be coming. Phone Terry or email at,
latbonorch@yahoo.com . It is helpful to have the RSVP
well in advance of the day of the meeting, since this tends to be a small
group, though certain topics seem to draw large numbers.
Best, Lester olson@pitt.edu
