Minutes of the OSWP Business Meeting Held on 4-17-11 at the Phipps Garden Center
Minutes Submitted by: Gary VanGelder
Meeting was opened by Carolyn Bolton at 1:40 PM
Carolyn started the meeting by covering a few items. These included:
• The society needs someone to chair the auction. The auction will be pushed back to later in the
year and we will have a different program for June if no one volunteers.
• Tim Choltco has confirmed that he will host the society picnic in July
• Nancy Morton of the Erie Orchid Society has asked our society to enter an exhibit in their
show. Their show is Mother’s Day weekend. It will require someone to coordinate.
• Amy Cignetti is coordinating a hike to see native orchids in the wild. It will take place on May
7th. This field trip is a new activity for the OSWP.
• The Spring Show did well financially. Carolyn, and those in attendance, thanked Linda Forshner
for a great job of coordinating it. Linda has agreed to chair the show again next year.
Nancy Klein highlighted our fun at Phipps activity. We will be helping at the Phipps May Market to
sell orchids. Setup day is on May 5th.
Demetria Marsh gave an update on our increased involvement with Phipps and their orchid collection.
She reviewed her listing of volunteer needs (leaders & workers). The initial task will be to perform an
inventory of the collection.
The last meeting of the Culture Study group was atBarbara Tisherman’s home where she explained aspects
that made a plant of award quality. The May meeting will be at the home of Mary Lou Kosis in
Sewickley with the topic of flask to compot.
Norma Raiff briefly gave an update on progress of the bylaws revision. She hopes to have a draft
ready for board review by June.
Gary Marshal reported that he has started the process of inventorying the society’s library collection.
Carolyn asked everyone to copy her on anything sent in for the newsletter to help her keep the web
site up to date.
Don Bell has agreed to coordinate nomination of officers for the society elections next month. All current
officers have agreed (with one change) to return next year, so their names are in nomination. The
one change is Randy Kunkle has agreed to serve as Co-Treasurer with Bob Jenkner instead of Co-2nd
Vice President. Contact Don if you wish to nominate someone else for one of the positions.
Carolyn mentioned the Membership Committee will host a new member’s brunch prior to next
month’s meeting starting somewhere about noon.
Show & Tell – 8 Members brought in plants.
