The OSWP Picnic will be at Gary Van Gelder’s home. The society will supply the meat, soft drinks and the
members are to bring the accompaniments. Please contact Gary if you are going to attend and what food
you plan to bring.
Directions to Gary Van Gelder
Our house is just off Brownsville Road and about ½ mile north of the Allegheny County Fair Grounds in
South Park. Most people will be heading south on Brownsville (towards the fairgrounds). There are 2 roads
on the left just to the south of the intersection of Brownsville, Maple Springs, and Hilldale (has traffic
signals). April is the first road on the left (small private road) and Ridge Road is just beyond it. There
is a Western PA Conservancy garden in the space between April and Ridge. This is about 1/4 mile south
of Doritos restaurant and a 7/11 store. The south Park Golf Course is on the right side of the road
between the restaurant and the traffic signal intersection. For those heading north on Brownsville, there is
a large field called Sunny Slopes on your right just before the intersection with Ridge Road.
Our house is the first one on the left once you turn onto April from Brownsville. The house has red siding
upper, a beige stone lower, and a gravel driveway. There is a white travel trailer in the back of the
driveway. There are only 4 houses on the street. Our driveway only holds about 4 or 5 cars. We are trying
to save this for those who have difficulty walking. April Lane ends 2 lots beyond our house in a
church parking lot. The church has given us permission to use the lot. We are asking those who are
able to walk a short distance to park in that lot.
An alternative is to turn onto Ridge, then the first left onto Wilson just beyond the church, and then a
quick left into the church parking lot (careful on this turn as it is a bit of a blind knob). April Lane
starts at the far end of the parking lot and continues back down to Brownsville. We would be the second
house on the right if you go this way
