We are on the road to our 40th annual Spring Orchid Show. This year’s theme, Orchid Reflections, refers to our long history of producing these amazing events. If you are a newer member, you can be involved at whatever level your time and talents can provide. Our January meeting was sparsely attended, probably due to competition from snow and Steelers. If you missed the meeting, you missed a thoughtful presentation on preparing your plants and your exhibits. There is still time though to attend February’s meeting and get up to date. You can find the show schedule on this website.
Here are a few things you can do before the next meeting: We are in need of someone to Chair the Set-up Committee. All this involves is being available on Wednesday, March 18 from about 6 pm to 9 or 10 pm. Jack Lucas will be bringing the props he stores for our displays. We need help unloading and setting up the standards that will hold the drapes, etc. This is a good way to get involved with your fellow members. Just let Nancy Kline or Carol Panza know. Once you are certain you are exhibiting, contact Jim Yamber so he can set aside space for your display. He needs this info no later than 2 weeks before the show. Jim’s e-mail is quail1@verizon.net. Please use OSWP in the subject line and ask for a confirmation. If you plan to volunteer for Host and Hostess Table or Raffle Table, you can sign up at the February meeting or contact Chairs, Rich or Norma Raiff raiffnm@comcast.net or 412-344-5969 or Meg Vates mvates@hotmail.com or 412-477-7231. There are a few trophies remaining to sponsor. You may contact Nancy Kline at nancykline@zoominternet.net or 724-687-9796. Those Members who sponsor a trophy will be entered into a raffle to win a larger print from artist, Sharon Arffa. Finally, if you have an interest in Chairing the show next year, please let Chuck, Mike, Carol or Nancy know of your interest. We will be glad to help with the transition.
There will be much more information at the February meeting and in the March newsletter. We look forward to your continued help in making the annual shows a premier flower event.
